혼탁한 상태 사이에서— 흐림과 경계의 실천 Interstitial Turbidity—Practicing in Blurry Boundaries

심포지엄 세미나 노트 #2
2025년 여름, 이번 심포지엄 내 그룹 연구 프로젝트는 하나의 ‘컴패니’를 구성하는 것으로부터 시작한다. 여기서 컴패니는 법적 조직이 아니라, 함께 움직이고 사유하는 일시적인 공동체—무용단에 가까운 형태를 가리킨다. 우리는 이 컴패니를 〈서로의 곁에서 In Each Other〉라고 이름 붙였다.
이 작업에서 우리의 주요한 스승 중 하나는 ‘혼탁함(turbidity)’이다. 늪과 진흙처럼 흐릿한 물속으로 스며들며, 우리는 경계를 가로지르고 뒤섞이며, 이끼와 같은 존재들과 함께 머물고 사유한다. 삶과 죽음 사이에서, 그리고 서로 다른 몸들이 만들어내는 지저분하고도 생생한 혼란 속에서, 우리는 분명하게 구분되지 않는 상태에 귀 기울인다. 겉으로 보기만 해서는 무엇이 무엇인지 알 수 없는 상태—그 흐림 속에서 관계와 감각을 다시 배운다.
이 프로젝트는 그러한 흐림과 우연성, 그리고 서로의 진동에 귀 기울이는 과정 속에서 형성된다. 우리는 이 과정을 ‘신성한 노동’으로 이해한다. 신성함(sacred), 희생(sacrificio), 노동(officio)이 교차하는 지점에서, 이 작업은 하나의 행위이자 제안으로 작동한다.
〈행성적 배관 서비스〉는 막힌 흐름을 다시 여는 작업이다. 여기서 ‘배관(plumbing)’은 단순한 물리적 설비를 넘어, 순환이 멈춘 관계와 감각, 물질의 흐름을 다시 연결하는 행위를 의미한다. 이는 내면과 외부, 개인과 집단, 인간과 비인간 사이에서 발생하는 다양한 ‘막힘’을 다루는 실천이다.
우리는 두 가지 형태의 ‘선물’을 제안한다.
첫 번째는, 폐기물의 흐름 속에서 일어나는 분해와 회귀의 과정을 다시 열어내는 작업이다. 바나나 껍질과 사과 심지와 같은 유기적 잔여물을 건져 올려, 그 에너지를 다시 흙으로 되돌리고, 다종(多種)의 소화와 순환을 가능하게 한다. 이 과정에서 우리는 때로 쓰레기통을 뒤적이며, 버려진 것들 속에서 새로운 연결의 가능성을 발견한다.
두 번째는, 몸을 통한 해방의 시간—댄스 파티이다. 이는 마음의 막힘을 풀고, 개인의 경계를 넘어 서로의 리듬에 접속하는 시간을 만든다. 음악이 허락하는 만큼 몸을 맡기며, 개인의 문제를 지나, 공동의 문제를 지나, 세계의 문제들을 통과한다. 이 과정은 ‘급진적인 다정함’이라는 태도를 통해 서로를 다시 감각하게 한다.
이 프로젝트는 고정된 결과물이 아니라, 흐름 속에서 변화하고 확장되는 하나의 과정이다. 우리는 서로의 곁에서, 흐릿한 경계 위에서, 여전히 배우고 있으며, 연결되고 있다.

Feelers Symposium Note #2
This group research project began in the summer of 2025 with the formation of a “company”—not a legal entity, but a temporary collective that moves and thinks together, closer to a dance ensemble. We named it In Each Other.
One of our key teachers was turbidity. Immersing ourselves in murky waters—like swamps and mud—we crossed and blurred boundaries, thinking alongside moss-like beings. In the indistinct space between life and death, and within the messy vitality of multiple bodies, we learned to attend to what cannot be clearly separated or defined.
The project unfolds through this condition of blur, contingency, and attunement. We understand it as a form of “sacred labor,” where sacredness, sacrifice, and work intersect.
Planetary Plumbing Service proposes a practice of reopening blocked flows. Here, “plumbing” extends beyond physical infrastructure, referring to the reconnection of stalled circulations—of relations, sensations, and materials—across inner and outer worlds, human and more-than-human realms.
We offer two gestures:
First, a process of reactivating cycles of decomposition and return within waste streams—recovering organic remnants and returning their energies to the soil, enabling multispecies digestion and circulation.
Second, a dance party—an embodied space for releasing internal blockages, moving through individual, collective, and planetary concerns with radical tenderness.
This project is not a fixed outcome but an evolving process. It remains a practice of learning, attuning, and staying alongside one another within blurred boundaries.
